Crazy Quotes #4 & 5

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Wow, this single awesome video gave me a two-for-one deal. I insisted Andrew and Richard watch what would be the best Rock Band song ever. Difficult across the board and a guaranteed smile on your face the whole time!

It is Focus - Hocus Pocus, that is to say it is the 70’s band Focus, also known for their song Sylvia. The drummer fills faster than YouTube can keep up, the guitarist races through some intense solos, all the while the bass steamrolls through, and that keyboardist/vocalist is an animal! Lyrics are completely unnecessary when you have this guy’s range!

Yeah, that’s right! Yodeling! Whistling! Flut-ing around! “Vocalist” is too quaint a description for the man with the crazy hair and/or eyes!

Check out that flute solo!

Of course the video lends itself toward arguments, like whether or not the yodeling sounds like the Price is Right yodel song. My position:

Yes, I agree there’s yodeling involved

But just because one yodel enters the popular consciousness does not make all yodels like it.

You won’t wanna work…

…you’ll just wanna bang on these drums all day!

You need a webcam in or for your computer in order to get this to work, but you can now play the drums by waving your hands around in well-lit areas.

Flash fine art

There’s a lot of great stuff going on in the computer generated art scene, it’s a nice mix of programming prowess and personal expression. I made one that combines nature-inspired vector shapes with a color sampling of this image. It is also a drawing tool, one in which I made massive amounts of swirls in. The faster you move the cursor the more it throws down and in wilder rotations. The longer you hold it in the same spot, the more blurry it gets. And each time you click it switches to a different color. Here are my results, overall and up close:

The Evils of The Elderly

It is a site that pokes fun at 1950’s paranoia. I made it in one of my many Jason classes.
